Boroondara Brass

The Band

The brass banding journey of many of the current Band's members began in the early 90's when as youth band members, they started competing in junior grades, progressively winning their way through the grades until in 1995 they won the Junior Victorian A grade Championship at Box Hill.

Their success in the junior grades, and the fact that members were starting to reach 19 years of age, led to a decision to form a band to compete in open grades. Between 1998 and 2000, this band won three National Championships, in Open D and C grade sections, and between 1996 and 2000, received the Merv Simpson "Victorian Band of the Year" Award. This award is given by the Victorian Bands' League for the most successfully competitive band. In 1998 the band recorded a CD titled "Youth 'n' Brass".

Under their current title of Boroondara Brass, the band have been Victorian B Grade Champions in 2007, 2006, 2005, 2003, 2002, 2001 and 2000. In 2002 the band finished a close second in the Open B Grade National Championships. The band received the Merv Simpson in 2006.

Following several successful years in B grade the band was promoted to A Grade in 2008. The band are thrilled at this opportunity to challenge ourselves and to grow musically.

Boroondara Brass has a wide repertoire, from classical music to traditional brass band tunes as well as jazz and popular music.
