Daniel van Bergen – Musical Director

Daniel van Bergen was appointed Musical Director of Boroondara Youth Brass in November 2004. After much success with Boroondara Youth Brass including dual national titles, which made him the youngest person to conduct a band to a National Championship, Danny was appointed Musical Director of Boroondara Brass in late 2005. Daniel has since led Boroondara’s bands to 3 more National titles.

Danny started his musical career in his home town of Echuca studying classical organ and then began learning the cornet in the Echuca Federal Band. He began conducting at an early age conducting school concert and jazz bands. Since then Danny has gone on to conduct numerous ensembles including brass bands, orchestras, new music ensembles and variety of shows and light opera including productions of “Annie”, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat”, “The Pirates of Penzance”, “The Witches of Eastwick” and “Jesus Christ Superstar”.

Danny graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Music Performance (Conducting and Euphonium) and Deakin University with a Graduate Diploma of Education. Daniel holds Associate Diplomas in Band Studies (Horn) and Musicianship and is an Associate of Trinity College London on Euphonium.

Danny teaches at two of Melbourne’s most recognised music schools, Eltham High School and Deepdene Primary School and his studying for his Masters in Teaching. He is also the current Musical Director of the Melbourne Tramways Band.

Currently at Boroondara Danny conducts Boroondara Brass (A Grade) and oversees the running of all of Boroondara’s ensembles. Danny is also known to frequent a well-known Portuguese style chicken eatery.
