Mateusz Gwizdalla – Associate Musical Director

Mateusz GwizdallaMateusz Gwizdalla, better known as Mati for reasons immediately apparent, is a young performing artist who takes on the guise of brass player, composer, conductor and actor, although he still habitually thinks of himself as a musician.

He first picked up a trumpet at 8, started writing music at 12, first conducted at 15 and has been acting since 18. He also tends to do a lot of singing, but doesn’t remember when that started.

Mati has been a member of the Boroondara Brass community since 2008. Before his first rehearsal he had never even heard of a brass band. Since then he has played whichever cornet part was put in front of him, and currently plays Principal Horn.

Mati was awarded an AMusA with distinction on trumpet in 2011. Recently he graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School after 4 years of music training and was awarded the school’s musicology award, principal’s award and citizenship award. His VCE studies earned him two Premiers’ Awards in two music subjects – Music Investigation & Music Style and Composition.

Mati conducts Boroondara Harmony Brass (C grade) and Boroondara Junior Brass and is also currently undertaking a double degree Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Performing Arts at Monash University.
